The Office of Digital Learning (ODL) congratulates Dr. Graziella Pagliarulo McCarron for being the recipient of the Online Course Excellence Award. She is praised for her virtual course INTS 204: Leadership Theory and Practice, which impressed reviewers in ODL’s open call for portfolios earlier this Spring.

Dr. McCarron is a term assistant professor at the School of Integrative Studies (SIS) and the concentration head of Social Entrepreneurship at the Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies (MAIS). Her ubiquitous passion and accredited work ethic gives ODL great reason to provide her with this honorable award.

Her recognized course, INTS 204, explores leadership theories from historical and contemporary accounts. Students participate and reflect on such practices by examining current events, social issues, and their own personal experiences. The online community dives into the study of leadership through various projects, discussions, analyses, readings, presentations, and activities. Texts like Kouzes & Posner’s The Leadership Challenge and George & Sim’s True North are a few examples studied in the course.

Dr. McCarron’s professional background, student assessments, and engaging curriculum all reflect her interest in integrating social change through effective leadership. She states, “my commitment to developing/delivering online learning/distance education is an extension of this deep interest in access and removing barriers to time/place for learning.”
